Do you ever wonder why leaves change color? Well here's why!
I think leaves change color for the tree's protection. When we get closer to fall the earth gets fewer hours of sunlight so, trees start to stop making food. Then the chlorophyll process slows down, and eventually stops all together. Lastly as the chlorophyll fades away wich makes the orange and yellow color more visable. In our class we are having our own presidential debate! It is really fun. We have made bumber stickers, brochures, comercials, and business cards!
I learned lots of new tricks on the computer. For example I learned how to cut, copy, and also make screen shots. I also learned all the things president do, well, to actually be presidents! Along the way people get uliminated until there is only one person from every party. I am still running, but we are starting to eliminate people! EEK!!! Today we went to a historical reenactment at Olive Mary - Stitt. It was quite fun.We learned many things like , wig makers are also, teeth puller, shaver, leech worker ,and wig powderer. Everybody had different jobs. For example there was a wig maker, a teacher, ranger, and also a scout. A wig maker makes wigs for the men and women. For example, they are often made of human hair, goat hair, horse hair, sheep hair. We also met a German wood crafter named Zebalia. He showed us some of his tools to make wood items. For example he showed us a wooden bowl he made.
Today in science class we did an experiment relating to the other with the ice bath and good insulators. Today we were aloud to bring in some insulators from home, also we had some here at school. I held my insulated bottles in an ice bath, put one temperature probe in the ice bath and one in our covered bottle.
My bottle had some very good insulators. I used foam, paper towels, bubble wrap, and fleece. I know they were good insulators because the hot water in my bottle started at 37.6 degrees Celsius to 38.7 degrees Celsius. If my temperature went up then they must be very good! I don't think there is anything I could of done to make my setup work better. I know my setup went well because my temperature not only stayed the same but it went up! Today in class we made cards for our principal, Mr. Badynee! He turned 50 today on October 9th. He always does his best to do good things for our school. Thanks to Mr. Badynee we have 12 ipads in our classroom. He has also allowed my teacher, Mr. Solarz, to teach the way he wanted to- like a 21st century classroom! Today in math class we learned how to make tessellations with pattern blocks and online. A tessellation is any shape that can fit together in a repeated pattern.
Don't forget, tessellations have two rules. Number one- They have to repeat in four directions, up, down, left, and right. Number two- They may not over lap or leave a gap. Also there are two kinds of tessellations. For example, Slide and rotation. Mad Libs could help you remember the nine parts of speech because when it asks you for a word it will ask for a certain kind of word. For example it may ask for a noun, a verb, a adverb, or a pronoun. When it asks for a certain word you need to think about a word that matches the part of speech. Vocabulary- Noun- A noun is a person place or thing. Verb- A verb is a word that shows action. Adverb- An adverb is a word that discribes a noun, verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Pronoun- A pronoun is a word that takes place of a noun.
Today we did an experiment. We wrapped plastic bottles in different things. For example, there was foil, plastic wrap, wax paper, batting, foam, and felt. My partner and I wrapped our bottle in felt. We held our bottles in an ice bath. There was hot water in the bottles we had. We put one tempeture probe in the ice bath and another in our bottle. Then we pulled up logger lite on the computer and we saw how the tempetures changed. I learned that different materials have different amounts of insulation. For example, a good insulator (the material that kept the water hotter)was the batting. The batting kept the water from 42.3 degree's Celsius. |
