What's going on in Mr. Solarz' Class? |
|
Today we learned about how heat transfers work in science. A heat transfer works by putting somthing warm near something cold. When the warm object gets close to the cold object the warm object transfers heat to the cold object and tries to make it the same temperature by giving heat to the cold thing. We then did a heat transfer of our own by putting a cup of warm water in a bucket of cold water to see if the water would change temperature. We then used temperature probes and put them in each of the cups of water and made a graph of the warm water transfering heat and losing heat trying to make the cold water warmer. I was suprised to find out that on the graph when our cold water and warm water temperatures almost were the same the warm water temperature went up. But, suprising enough, the colder water finally was warmer than the warm water.
Today we learned about what a fair test is. We learned this by Mr.Solarz showing us a demonstration of bouncing two balls and dropping them at different heights and forces and doing it ourselves. He showed us how to make a fair test, which is doing an experiment between two things fairly, so we could measure our own records of the height of a bouncing racket ball verses a bouncing ping pong ball to see how high each ball bounced. Although most of us didn't understand the procedure it was still fun!
This year will be great because we are going to use electronics more often. We are going to learn like a 21st century classroom which means more fun and excitement.
So far we have learned about energy forms and how to catagorize pictures of energy into groups. We have started a miniature election and are learning about how an election works. We are even pretending to have an election where we are running for president. I should set the goals of communicating and working together more because I tend to go ahead of others when working together in a group because I like to have only a little of homework. I learned quite a bit about political parties in class today. Here are some of the highlights:
