Causes of the Revolutionary War

The Proclamation of 1763 was a law that Great Britain passed that forbid the colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains because England was worried that the Native Americans would attack them.

The Quartering Act was passed so that soldiers were sent to protect the colonists from Native Americans from attacking and the colonists had to care for the soldiers without complaining.

The Stamp Act was passed so that the British could pay for their debt. The law said that if a colonist got a paper object they needed a stamp on it and had to pay for the stamp.

The Boston Massacre happened because the colonists didn't like the soldiers. One day the colonists started to taunt the sentry and more soldiers came over and shot at the colonists.

The Boston Tea Party was when the British said the colonists could only buy tea from one company. The colonists were very angered by this action and started boycotting tea.

The Intolerable Acts happened when the colonists dumped the tea into the harbor. Then when the colonists were in times of need they didn't get help from the British until they paid for the tea the got rid of.

This History Alive Unit is good for showing how Cause and Effect work because when the British made a new law the colonists reacted in different ways. It shows that that if the British passed an unfair law (cause) the colonists were angered (effect).
Also, this Unit shows the importance of communicating because the British didn't communicate with the colonists very well and they ended up fighting.
