Your joint is writing a persuasive letter to you, asking you to be kinder to it by doing (or not doing) several things.  Can you write from that perspective?  Can the joint be persuasive enough to get you to treat it better?  Think about eating, carrying things, what you are wearing, sitting, lifting, exercising, playing sports, etc.  What simple things could you do during your daily routine that would protect your joints?  Have fun writing!

1. I chose the jaw as the most important joint. 

2. I chose the jaw because if your jaw didn't work, then you couldn't eat, which you need to do to live. Basically, if your jaw didn't work, you would die.


3. One movement that can be done without your joints is sniffing with your nose.

Dear Emma,
         Hello. My name is Knee Joint. You can call me KJ. I would like to let you know that you have been treating me very poorly. You always bruise me and bang me against chairs and tables. PLEASE STOP!!! It hurts very bad, and I don't want to look bad when I go see my Grandpa Knee and Grandma Knee. If I looked bad, then they would make me stay with them so that I can stay safe! I don't want to live with them because they treat me like a baby! Is it really that hard to not bang KJ! Please! I hope you don't take any of this personally.

Observations:

Me and my partner saw different things and felt different things when we were exerting ourselves from doing jumping jacks. I saw that his face was getting a little pink, and he was slowing down after a while. I felt bad because my stomach kept getting cramps in them and it would slow me down and make me stop.

1.  We need food, water, and energy
2.
    You can get a cramp in your stomach from the muscles tightening in your body when you are working out.

    Your calves can get sore also from the muscles tightening in your body when you work energetically.

    Your face can get red because warm, oxygenated blood rushes to the surface of your skin.
    
     You can also be sweating, caused from the perspiration on your body.


3.You can do different things for each one but we thought that you could drink water to make your red or pink cheeks go away. If you have a cramp you can just stand up and stop doing whatever you were doing that caused the cramp in the first place. That also works with the calves being sore too. It also can help to lay down and rest.

 I have realized many observations about my apple.

• The apple smells fruity and sweet as if it was picked from an apple orchard just now.
  
• I notice that there are two little holes inside of the apple, which is where the seeds go. I notice that it is green where the hole is.
  
  • On the skin, it is almost rubbery and rough, but on the other side, it is slippery and smooth.
  • There is a brown line going down the inside of the apple, which is in the middle
  • On the red side(the skin) the smell of the apple is less strong and doesn't smell that fruity. But on the other side, it is really strong, just like I described in the first observation.
  • There are little fuzzy fur balls inside the middle of the apple, in the hole that the seeds go.
  • There are light, tiny dots on the skin of the apple. They have little dents and are all over the place.
  • There is a hole by the stem and it is light greenish and fuzzy.
    

Questions:

• Why were you able to observe so many things about your apple today?
• Why is observation and description so important in science?
• Rank order the five senses in the order or your observations (i.e. which sense was used most, second most, etc.).

Answers: I think that I was able to observe so many things about an apple because there are so many things that nobody notices about an apple, that they never really stop to think about it. It is just like observing anything else, you just don't realize it right away.


Observation and Description is so important in science because if you didn't observe anything, you wouldn't be able to learn more about it. If you don't even see, hear, smell and touch it, you won't learn anything at all. Description is important because if you didn't describe what you observed, no one will be able to understand it or learn with you.


In order from used most with the apple to least used with the apple, the senses are: Sight I used most, Touch I used second most, Smell third most, Hear I didn't use at all, actually.

I added all of these body parts to my alien and they all worked! This is the picture of what my final alien looks like:

Reflection:

• Do we have cells similar to the aliens you created?  How or why not?
  

• Humans (and probably aliens) have cells that have special functions.  What are some of these cells and what organs and systems are they a part of?  Give at least three examples and be specific.  (Example: Osteoclasts are cells that make up spongy bone inside of many of our bones.  This is part of the skeletal system.)

ANSWERS: I don't think that we have cells similar to the alien I created because our cells form each part of our body and the alien that I created has totally different body parts then humans.

One of them is that the cells make up the shell and paws, they allow the alien to slide in the slippery mud. Another one that the cells create is that mouth that the alien has allows the alien to slurp up the mud that it eats. The final one for my alien that cells create is the eyes that lets it see up high since the alien itself is so low on the ground.

Question: What was the hardest part of this activity? Answer: I think the hardest part was figuring out what each organ/ body part does for your body.
Question: What organs do you think you put in the right place? Answer: I think that we put a lot of the organs in the wrong place but it was just a pre-test. I think we put the heart, the brain, the lungs, the stomach, and the eyes in the right place.
Question: Which organs do you think you probably put in the wrong place? Answer: Well, I am not really sure but I think that we might have put the Trachea and the Pharynx definitely in the wrong place. I think we might have put some of the other ones in the wrong place, but I think that we definitely got those to wrong. I just don't really know where else to put them.
