It was so much fun when we were making all of the cards and stickers and everything on word and it was so much fun! Although it is all still work that we had to do. After we had all those things done we had to take them and put them together into a giant glog(above). It was pretty hard to do all that stuff though. I had a lot of trouble trying to get all of the stuff on the glog. I learned about how to make a glog and how to take a glog and put it onto the blog.
We met many people at the field trip and we found out what they do. Here are some of the people and what they do:
Captain John Ira Parke-Surveyor Leon duBois and Catherine-Colonial Clothing Christina Johnson-BroadSides/NewsPaper Katherine Caird-School Mistress David Ian Gordon-Representative of the King-British Military Peter Smith-Frontiersman Angus McClain-Militia Zebadiah-Carpenter Joseph O’Fallon-Trapper Laura Gordon-Wig Maker The reason that leaves are green in the summer is because photosynthesis is still happening and there is still plenty of food for the plant. There are also little things inside the plant that are the different colors like red, orange,& yellow but they are so small that you can't see them so the green color dominates over them. But when it starts to change seasons like to fall the photosynthesis starts to not happen as much anymore and the other colors start to show more and they eventually dominate over the green. The reason that yellow and orange leaves change to yellow and orange is because of the carotene and the xanthophyll. The reason that the red leaves change to red is because of the anthocyanins. But unlike carotene or xanthophyll the anthocyanins is not in the leaf year-round. It doesn't start making this untill almost all the green in the leaf is gone that is when it starts to synthesize the anthocyanins. The brown leaves are pretty much just all of the waste from the plant.
Today in science class we did an experiment relating to the other with the ice bath and good insulators. Today we were aloud to bring in some insulators from home, also we had some here at school. I held my insulated bottles in an ice bath, put one temperature probe in the ice bath and one in our covered bottle.
My bottle had some very good insulators. I used foam, paper towels, bubble wrap, and fleece. I know they were good insulators because the hot water in my bottle started at 37.6 degrees Celsius to 38.7 degrees Celsius. If my temperature went up then they must be very good! I don't think there is anything I could of done to make my setup work better. I know my setup went well because my temperature not only stayed the same but it went up! Madlibs help you remember the different parts of speech because they make you use adjectives, nouns, verbs, interjections, prepositions, adverbs, conjunctions, and pronouns. They make you learn how to use all the different parts of speech. If you keep on doing them a lot then you would be able to do the parts of speech like a
Testing the installation of foam was pretty fun. First we picked one item to wrap around our bottle. Then we put one temp. probe in the ice bath and one temp. probe in the bottle. The bottle had hot water in it and it had a piece of plastic wrap on the top with a rubber band securing in place. We poked the temp. probe through the plastic wrap and into the water in the bottle. Next we put the bottle in a bag and held it to the bottem of the ice bath. Thats when we started recording and you can see the data up above.
