Today we did a breathing through straws experiment we used two different straws. We used coffee stirring straws as the really thin or small straw. And then we used just a regular drinking straw as the second straw. One of the really hard ways to breath through the straws were doing jumping jacks with the normal sized straw and then it was really hard to breath through the smaller straws while we wrer sitting down. It was hard because, the smaller straws make you breath deeper and use more air. Then using the wide straws caused deep breathing after the jumping jacks in place. Breathing through the thin straw was so different then doing it with the wide straw because it could only hold so much air at a time. Changes do happen when you are breathing through the straws while doing different activities because depending on what you do it makes you use more air to breath through the straws.

In class we do this thing right before lunch for about 15-20 minutes. One thing I do during passion time is I love to read so I am reading a book called Runaway Twin by one of my favorite authors of all time. I am also reading Running Out of Time for lit. circles. I have read Among the Hidden also by her and there are many other books I can not wait to read written by her! I also just started to read The Candy makers by: Wendy Mass, she is an excellent author she has also written Eleven Birthdays too! And this is what I do in passion time. I think we spent so much time learning about the causes of the revolutionary war because first it is important to learn about Americas history and/or time line. Second is that we will need this information in the future. These effects that happened can have multiple causes like the Boston Massacre. There was the colonists making fun of the British by calling them "lobster backs". Then who could forget the British wounding 6 colonists and killing 5 colonists. And the colonists not getting a part in the laws that the British make. Another couple causes is the Tea Act, Stamp Act, and the Sons of Liberty were some of the other causes of the Revolutionary War. One huge cause of the war is when the British soldiers moved to the land sent from England or the king. Today in science class we did an experiment in our muscles. We had to count every time we opened and closed a clothespin. A muscle fatigue is when your muscles get sore and tired. In my data there was no pattern while I was recording it. The data was kinda all over the place. My partners data did not have any pattern whatsoever. I mean some of our separate data were close together. It also depends on how much you were actually trying to press on the clothespin. There was a small pattern which was that it kept going up and down randomly. I think that my results are pretty reliable because if I compare it to my fellow 5th grade classmates they are probably in the same range of dat
Today me and my partner did a experiment for science. We used only three senses including touch, hearing and sight to drop a ruler and then catch it in mid air! We made two videos, the one on the left is my partner Marty testing me which is the first video we made together. Then the one on the right is the one were I tested my partner and for the three tests we could open our eyes only for one which was sight. We had to close our eyes for touch and hearing.
One of the hardest senses was touch while you had to close your eyes because you couldn't tell when they were going to drop the ruler at any time. Plus they had to tap your shoulder and right when your partner taps your shoulder they drop the ruler too! I could use only one of the senses at a time to catch the ruler. The easiest one to do was the sight because, you could open your eyes to see when they point at you and drop the ruler into either your hand or the floor! My mussels help me to do this experiment by remembering they way on how to do the same reflexes over and over again. It is just like when you are old and you didn't ride a bike for 10-20 years but right once you get back on a bike your mussels remember how to do the same position to ride a bike; Today in math we made these pie charts on this really cool create a graph website. Yesterday in our math journals we recorded the amount of each colored candies out of 10. The colors where blue, pink, red, green, and purple for the candies we had.
The pie on the left was just using 10 chips. Then the one on the right was using 100 colored chips. The Quartering

The Boston Massacre Boston Tea Party The Intolerable ActsThis year I learned a lot about Hydropower. Hydropower is clean, and reliable and renewable. Hydropower is one of the cleanest energy sources. Water will never run out a long as we live! It relies on the water cycle which will also never run out. We don't kill animals or people. It is very cheap once you have the dam built, you don't have to pay anything. No green house gases or fossil fuels burned! Hydropower works any time of day. |
