Oregon Trail Lesson 5 - Crossing The Kansas River

• There are still 26 living tribes in Yellowstone National park
• A ton of people came to get beaver skin hats and skin
• 2 feet of snow is normal, 6 is about right
• There is a huge amount of obsidian
• There are petrified trees which are made from volcanic eruptions
• There are stories of people who say that there is "hell" in Yellowstone such as bubbling mud that comes from the ground
  
• The magma and hot rock is found about 30 miles underground
• You don't want to sit in a hot spring because the boiling temperatures will kill you
• In a mud pot, the center will eat the rocks around it
• Old faithful has a enough pressure to shoot very high
• The hole of old faithful is the size of a closed fist
• Hot springs are up to 220 Fahrenheit
  

Reflection: I thought this was cool, even though it had nothing to do with the Oregon Trail. I got a LOT of good facts about Yellowstone.
