If the world were a village the book By David J. Smith we learned that if the world was a village of 100 people 60 people would be from Asia, 15 people would be from Africa, 11 would be from Europe, 8 from South America, 5 from North America and 1 person would from Australia. This represents that Asia has the largest population out of the 7.046 billion people in the world. Out of all of the 100 people in the village 33 are Christians 22 are Muslims, 15 fallow no religion, 14 are Hindus, 9 practice Shamanism, 5 are Buddhist, and 2 are all other religions. This part made me upset and made me feel like I needed to do something to change this. 30 out of the 100 people in the world village are hungry most of the day and an additional 17 people die from starvation. The 53 people that are left have enough food to not be hungry. I thought that this was very unfair and food should be divided equally but sadly that is not how the word works. Once we calculated it we found out that 11,199,500,000 people don't have the food to be well fed, this was the saddest part of the book. And the water supply is the same 87 people have safe water and the other 13 have to walk great distances to get safe water. At first I didn't realize how unfair the world is. 62 out of the 100 have a safe place for sewage, the other 38 are at risk or have disease. 68 breath clean air and the 32 do not. One of the last things we read about the fact that each person should get $10,300 per year but that is not the case. 10% of the village take 85% of all of the money and another poor 10% share the 15% of the money that is left. This turns out to be the poor get $2 a day and the rich get $87,500 a year. The 80 people that are left make about $6 a day, these people can not afford the things that they need to live a full and happy life. I feel that I am slacking and not helping out people in need and I feel I should do more to make the world a better place.
