Here is our Human Body project. What we did was we put some gelatin in the two cups. On the first cup we put meat tenderizer on the bottom and the top of gelatin. For the second cup we didn't put any meat tenderizer on, only gelatin. We waited to see what would happen. My slideshow shows my progress for the every 15 minutes. We had to see if any changes happened. I noticed that after 15 minutes our first cup with gelatin and the meat tenderizer looked like the meat tenderizer soaked into the gelatin a little bit. If you look closely at the same cup after 15 minutes one spot in the gelatin has no meat tenderizer. After 30 minutes (I didn't take the pictures) the gelatin was almost liquid. I think the meat tenderizer broke apart the gelatin and made it into a liquid. In the second cup the gelatin also got liquidy but not as much as the gelatin in the first cup. I think the meat tenderizer speed up the process of melting gelatin.
On Wednesday January 30th 2013 me and my class went to the Field Museum. This blog is about our morning session, when we learned about the dinosaurs. Our tour guide for our morning session was Dennis. Dennis told us different cool facts about dinosaurs like about the 5 mass extinctions. He was really smart because he new facts about how our earth evolved. Did you know that our earth started out as a million volcano's ? Then he told us about all the different dinosaurs in the past. This was really important to spending a whole day off because we learned about first life on earth.
On our second part of our field trip we learned about meteorites. Our docent's name was Jim and he taught us all about meteorites. He showed us a video about all of the asteroids that were circling around our solar system. All of the scientists worked in the area where we were. It was very fun and I learned a lo
During respiratory system we did certain activities while breathing through a straw as we couldn't breath though our nose. It was hard but it was also fun. My answers to the questions in my Science notebook are:
1. Yes, the walking with the wide straw and jumping jacks with the wide straw. Also breathing with the small straw. 2. Because you don't get as much air as you would with the wide straw. 3. Because you got more air and you have more space to grab oxygen. 4. I think so because when you are out of breath when you exercise you want to grab more oxygen, thats why you breath faster when you are active In class me and my friend Lily took pictures of the book we read during passion time. Passion time is a time where we do something (school appropriate) that we are passionate about, like reading.
In class today we studied Muscle Fatigue and we made a graph on Create a Graph which showed how much squeezes we can squeeze on a clothespin. I had 10 trials and on my graph you can see how many squeezes I took in the course of 30 seconds. It was VERY tiring.
In the Human Body unit we were practicing muscle memory/reaction with our senses and what we did was ( If Taylor wasn't clear enough on the video ) that we took a ruler and we tested our reactions with touch, listening, and sight skills . My answers for page 16 were:
1. I think it was more difficult when I had my eyes closed. 2. When I smell the scent I could catch the ruler and with taste when I tasted the food I would catch the ruler. 3. My reaction helped me catch the ruler. When you watch the video you will see more clearly what we did. In my group was Taylor, Griffin and me. We had a lot of fun making this video and doing this activity. In math class yesterday we took notes for sample sizes and we learned: that sample size is the amount of number of samples taken when compiling data. Phrasing is how you word your question so that's it's accurate and you should survey as many people as possible to get accurate results. Today we made a pie graph of our results on Create a graph and if you google that you can create a graph. The 100 colored candies is more reliable for results than the 10 colored candies because it is more accurate to the more people you surveyed.
