In science class today, we learned about heat transfers. Our experiment for today was to find out if heat can transfer to cool through a plastic cup. To study this, we used a thermometer that plugged into a computer and had its own app. We measured a plastic cup full of water for our hot, and a bucket full of cool water for our cool. Then we put our plastic cup into the bucket and put red dye in it. We did this so that we could find out if the water was going through the plastic cup. Then we stuck our thermometers into the water. We had 2 so that we could measure both temperatures. We messed up a little on it and we have 3 sets of lines. However, we can still see the pattern. The water gets steadily cooler or warmer through the line parts. I was surprised to find out that the water became almost the same temperatures! Both temperatures became an x and the red water didn't go through the cup. This was surprising because I thought they would just go on in a straight line, but they didn't.
-This year will be great because Mr. Solarz is going to prepare us with a lot of learning that will keep us busy. We will have a 21st century classroom, as well as a lot of fun.
-So far we have learned about a great many things. Energy, math, and much more. We have been reading a book called Wonder. It makes everyone wonder what will happen next to "Auggie" and all his classmates, or really storymates. -I was surprised we learned so much in such a short time, because many of our learned subjects have been very hard. However, It has been so fun that the time scarcly goes by without an interesting lesson. -If I had to give any advice to my fellow students, it would be to remember how we heard so many untrue things about 5th grade. I would not trust any of them. I am determined to start this year on a clean slate. I learned quite a bit about political parties in class today. Here are some of the highlights:
This is our energy wheel. (our means my partner and I) This was fun because we got to go out into the school without an adult and take pics!!! Then we uploaded our pictures onto our computers and... well, you can see the results. When putting our photos onto the computers, we were behind and kind of scared, but then we went and finished anyway! Thank goodness! :)
