On January 30th we got to go to the field museum. We got to learn about meteorites and the theory of how the dinosaurs died. In the morning session we learned about the theory of how dinosaurs died. Dennis, our docent, told us how the earth had weather that was always changing and how at first the temperature was too hot for anything to grow. He told us that much of earth was covered in water so the first creatures were marine creatures. There were sharks like the megalodon which were killer predators. We learned that as the islands were formed by volcanoes some marine creatures evolved legs and went on land and became the first amphibians. Over time we learned that as the weather began to slow down in change the creatures were adapting to the change and evolved. Around 200 million years ago the first mammals evolved, but they were not much more than small rodents. Before the primates became humans there was the most famous extinction 65 million years ago. All dinosaurs were wiped out except for a small portion which evolved into the modern day birds. Over time the mammals evolved and became the first primates.
The morning session was worth taking a day off of school because we got to learn such interesting things about the formation and evolution of earth. I think that the most interesting thing that I learned was that there were so many different periods in earth's history like how at one point there was almost no land mass and then islands formed and amphibians walked on land. I think it could be possible for other planets to sustain life because the creatures on that planet wold have to be used to that climate so they could live on that planet
