Elephant seals are very unique mammals. They need and use water just as much as humans do! Although Elephant seals need water very much, they don't need it to drink. When Elephant seals are born, they get milk from their mom, which has water in it. then, as they mature the water goes into the blubber, leaving the elephant seal with plenty of hydration. When elephant seals eat, they eat things that live under water. I think it is because it would be very hard to catch food on land, especially because the elephant seals have to slide themselves around on land. The elephant seal eats the following: Shark, Flatfish, Rat fish, Crab, Squid, and Octopus. Elephant seals are very talented swimmers. They can hold their breath for up to 2 hours, and can dive up to 4,921 feet! The elephant seal also spends 90% of it's life under water! The elephant seal definitely spends lots of time using and needing water!

Questions1. Why is water considered a "Natural Resource?" 2. How is water essential (required) to our survival and the survival of all living things? | Answers1. Water is considered a natural resource because nature produces it. Humans can't make water unless it is already there. So it is natural. 2. Water provides hydration, which means that it keeps us from dying of dehydration. Without water, many people would die, and our population would decrease by a lot. |
