Working Creatively With Others
Today we stopped at Alcove Spring. I wish that we could have just stopped traveling forever and started to build there. I played a lot of marbles with the kids on the trail. I was really bad. My marble kept missing the other and going out of the circle. I also swam a lot. It reminded me of the public pool back home in 2150. We played threw the ball almost the whole day. We threw it in the lake then in the open land. I hope tomorrow I get to play so other games like button - Button, blind mans bluff, and tag. I also herd that the kids are doing a sack race so I want to do that too.
I know that I will have to do a lot of chore though. I will have to hunt for dinner, and might help washing the clothes. This is a lot different then when we were traveling. We never clean our clothes. On the trail we herd the sheep.
The food is amazing here, I especially like the apple cobbler.
Out of all earth's water is 97.24% salt water. Less than 3% of the earth's water is drinkable.
0.001% of all water is from the air.
0.01% of all water is fresh surface water.
0.61% of all water is fresh water from the ground.
2.14% of all earths water is ice.
I was so surprised how much salt water we have on earth. My prediction was that there was 5% more salt water but its a lot bigger than that. I put that the least amount of the of fresh water was from ice and from the ground. It turns out that those were the biggest source of fresh water. 97.24% of the water is salt water so that means 2.76 is the amount of fresh water. Now I know how lucky we our to be really close to one of the biggest fresh water source the great lakes. I will try to conserve even more good drinking water.
We are bringing a lot of stuff. Are big decision was to buy a prairie scooner wagon getting pulled by oxen. I am happy I got to buy a baseball. When we have time to waste I think I will play with my friends. We had money to buy everything but the weight and space. The oxen couldn't carry much weight. I was surprised that we brought so much bacon and flour. To me 600 lb of flour is a lot. Then 400 lb of bacon is also a lot. That is 1000 lb of just bacon and flour. We also brought six extra axles in case some break. I heard that some wagons got stranded because of broken axles. I hope we don't get stranded.
Animals on the trail
There are around 3000 bison - Thats a lot of bison. If they charge at you it would be really bad
There are more than 10 10000 feet tall peaks - I don't know how we are going to go over them with just a wagon
there are active volcanoes - It would be really bad if one erupts
Some large wagon trains had more than 1000 people - That is a lot of people
You will play buffalo chips - That sounds really grouse
You will become face to face with bison, coyotes, wolf bears, prairie dogs, and cougars - Those are some dangerous animals
Yellow stone covers 31 thousand square miles - That is bigger than Illinois
You will get harassed by animals - It will be bad if we get harassed by animals
You will have to pass through rivers and over mountains - Will we go over by wagon or walk through
Coyotes get eaten by a cougar - If a cougar eats a coyote we might get eaten by a cougar
Coyotes have really big ears - That means they could here us from far away coming
Coyotes are smaller than wolfs - I hope that they are less dangeress
Coyotes hunt in packs - They could probably take out our sheep with 7 coyotes
Coyotes fake getting hurt then it attacks when it helps it - I hope I'm not the dumb one to get attacked
The oregon trail was just a path that was worn out by other wagons - I wonder if there are other paths that we might get mixed up with
They wolfs eat eat 22 pounds a meat in a meal - That is a lot of food
Than means 66 pounds a week because they have 3 meals a week - They have the same amount of meals in a week then us in a day
The insiders get meat off the bones - That is the same for us
ravens and eagles eat dead animals
Wolfs eat about 3450 lb of meat per year - That is a lot
If you get a big wagon it will be hard to pull in the mud - I hope we don't get stuck in a big storm with rain
You would only be in the wagon if you were a newborn, a person that was sick or if you were elderly - That is a lot of walking
More people died on the trail from unsanitary conditions then indians and animals - I going to try to stay as heathy as I can
You could get stuck if it snows when your by the mountains - Lets hope we make it before winter
Buffalo and bear fat was used for bug repellent - Ewww that is a lot different from Off spray
Biting flies and mosquitoes would really would pester the pioneers and could give them a disease - Now I think I will use the fat
You would eat anything from bison to badger - I like bison burgers but badger sounds really bad
Wolfs have a little webbing in between their toes - I never knew that they had a little similarities to frogs
The webbing helps it walk on snow - It has a totally different purpose then frogs though
A badger’s nail is 1 3/4 inches long - That would look really weird on a human
I was surprised how big wolfs are, they are so big. The are three feet tall on four legs. I always thought that they were the size of a husky. When we are on the trail I hope we don't get stuck in a storm. I especially hope that it is not a snow storm in the mountains. The animals are also a scary threat. A pack of coyotes coming close to our wagon would be really bad. Now I know not to help a "hurt" coyote because they are just going to attack.
