Leaves can change, and do it is a very odd way. Because of the harsh conditions the leaves that are part of the tree start to shed. There are trees that can stay alive in the harsh weather though. For example pine trees. The reason these do not fall off is because the are covered with a waxing coat that keeps them warm. Then the trees that do fall off are trees without the coating of wax. Then the reason they become certain colors is because they have a chemical that makes it that color. The reason a tree could have a yellow leaf is because they have a cemical called carotene and xanthophyll. But the super chemical that is in everything is chlorophyll. It is how they become a leaf in the spring. But when it breaks down it becomes other colors. This is how it becomes other colors. And makes falls a real wonder.
