Do you ever wonder who created Arbor Day. His name is J Sterling Morton. J. Sterling Morton was born in Adams, Jefferson City New York. Arbor Day name comes from a word Arbor which means tree in Latin. So technically it is also called "tree day". Arbor day was started in Nebraska City, Nebraska U.S.A. The first Arbor Day was held on April 10 1872. One million trees were planted that year.That was 141 years ago! The creation of Arbor Day was caused by the lack of trees in Nebraska in the 1800's. It's not only american holiday, lots of other country's have this holiday too. Interestng fact about this man is that his son created Morton Salt.
