Well, Julius Sterling Morton founded Arbor Day. Julius Morton was born on April 22, 1832 and died April 27, 1902. Julius Morton built a mansion with 52 rooms that is now currently the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park. His biggest achievement was founding Arbor Day. He first got the idea to have Arbor Day on January 4, 1872 The exact date was set for April 10th, 1872. He offered prizes to counties and individuals for planting the most number of trees on that day. On the first Arbor Day a lot of trees were planted, maybe even 1 million!!! J. Morton was fascinated with trees and plants and so he planted many rare plants and apple trees around his mansion. J. Morton wanted to help people learn the techniques of farming and forestry because he loved the outdoors.
What is Arbor Day?
Arbor day is a day when people and communities come together to plant trees. Most countries celebrate Arbor Day or a holiday similar. The day that Arbor Day is celebrated is different in some countries becuase of the temperature.
