We learned many good things and some bad things in the book "If the World Were a Village". There was 100 people in the village representing the continents. There were 60 people from Asia. From the U.S. was 5. There were 20 just from China. There was also 17 from India. There were many languages,but here is a few. 9 speak English. 21 spoke some kind of Chinese. 16 spoke mandarin. There is a variety of ages. 20 people are 0-9 years old. 15 people are in the 30's. 3 are in the 70's and one is over 79 years old. Isn't that crazy! There are a few religions there too. Like 33 people are christian. 22 people are Muslims. 2 are other including Jewish. There were 31 sheep and goats. There are 23 cows and bulls. There are 200 chickens. There are 47 people who don't have any food at all. 87 people don't have access to safe water and air. 32 people have bad air. There are many jobs and schools,but lets see how many people do that. 36 can go to school 30 actually go. There is one teacher. The other 6 who don't attend work. 3 are doing really hard work like being a soldier in war. The other 3 work with their family. A lot of people have money,but some don't. 10 people have 85 percent of all the money. 10 people have less then 2 dollars a day. |
