Notes
- On member of the Louis and Clark expedition decided to go out on his own and came to Yellowstone National Park.
- Trappers wanted to come in this area to catch beaver fur. They caught beavers, other than different animals, because of the fashion style. If we catch beaver, we could lots of money because of the fashion style.
- At Yellowstone, you could get up to 6 feet of snow and have the temperatures drop to 30 degrees below zero!!! Yet in the Summer, it can get up to 90 degrees. Big temperature change. We need to be prepared for the cold and hot.
- In the winter, when they don't have work, will try to get out of the park.
- Yellowstone is pretty far away from stores. The closest Wal-Mart, Target, or other types of stores are about an hour away. We would have to travel far to get anything.
- Obsidian is a rock that Yellowstone has a lot of. The Native American tribes used this to make arrow-heads. We could do that too, and without having to spend a lot of money!
- Petrified wood is something they have in Yellowstone park, because of the volcano eruptions. The lava ended up covering the trees, and turning them into ashes. But, stone replaced the wood. That's why it is called petrified wood. (Petrified means that a stony substance to replace something else)
- Yellowstone Park has a super famous geyser named Old Faithful. We might need to be careful about those!
- Yellowstone Park is considered a super volcano, definitely need to be careful about eruptions. But, there is magma below the ground. A Hot-spring warms up becomes of the magma and the concrete it's it. It makes it beautiful colors.
- The Old Faithful Geyser's opening is only about the size of your fist!
- Mud-pots are pretty much what happens when water makes mud warm.
Reflection
I had so much fun skyping with the Yellowstone National Park rangers. They taught me so many things about the Oregon Trail and other nature related things. I also learned about some different things we should look out for on the Oregon Trail. I am very thankful for the help that we got and I definitely think that we will use it well. Yellowstone park looked very beautiful when I looked at the pictures, and I hope that I get to go there someday.
